Ayr South and Coylton in the frame for the latest community grants

People in and around Ayr South and Coylton are being encouraged to show their support for local community groups by voting on their favourites. The Ayr South and Coylton decision day will be held at Ayr Town Hall between 11am and 3pm on Saturday 20 May.

A fund of up to £45,000 is available at the event, for community groups in the Ayr South and Coylton locality areas, with 30 community groups pitching to an audience of local people about their proposal and how it will benefit the community. After all the pitches have been heard, the audience will vote to decide which groups should receive funding. Groups can be funded up to £1,000 for use in local projects. Bids of up to £10,000 for projects that benefit the wider community may be considered. The event is part of a new way to encourage people to get actively involved in local decision making known as 'Participatory Budgeting'. South Ayrshire Council and the Ayr South and Coylton Locality Planning Group is inviting people from Alloway and Doonfoot, Ayr South Harbour and Town Centre, Belmont, Castlehill & Kincaidston, Holmston & Forehill, and Coylton. Anyone over the age of 12 is able to take part in the electronic vote. Claire Monaghan, South Ayrshire Council's Head of Communities said, "The last event was a huge success with more than 120 people turning out to decide how to share out £24,000 to 27 local groups, helping to support and develop local priorities. "And that's what our participatory budgeting approach is all about. It's designed to give people a direct say on local decision making, with hundreds having already taken part in similar sessions this year. "I'm sure this latest session will prove to be popular with community groups and the public alike and I look forward to hearing more about the successful groups. Ahead of the event I'd also remind people to register to vote so that you can have your say on the day." The money was made available from South Ayrshire Council and the Scottish Government. The 'Decision Day' event takes place at Ayr Town Hall on Saturday 20 May between 11am and 3pm. Anyone wishing to vote must register between 10am and 11am.
