Ayr-based luxury textile brand Begg & Co is set to reach a major new international audience after being selected as one of 14 UK brands to feature in a new retail destination in China.

The company is part of the newly opened Boundless Matro Boutique Village in Suzhou, an ambitious lifestyle and retail development designed to help British and international brands enter the Chinese market without the cost and risk of traditional standalone stores.
Begg & Co joins a prestigious line-up of UK names including Molton Brown, Tom Dixon, Holland & Barrett, Whittard of Chelsea, Denby, Dents, Rupert Sanderson and Lalage Beaumont within the development’s dedicated House of Britain pavilion.

The opening marks an exciting development for the Ayrshire brand, giving Begg & Co a direct platform in one of the world’s most important luxury markets.
Boundless Matro Boutique Village is located beside the UNESCO-listed Humble Administrator’s Garden and is housed within 22 restored red-brick warehouses dating back to the 1950s. The site combines Suzhou’s historic architecture with a modern retail experience, blending physical shopping, digital retail and live streaming to connect global brands with Chinese consumers.
The project, which spans 25,000 square metres, has already been recognised as a National AAA Tourist Attraction and a National Demonstration Site for Urban Renewal.

For Begg & Co, whose luxury cashmere and woven accessories are crafted in Ayr, the opportunity places a proud Ayrshire name on a global stage alongside some of Britain’s best-known premium brands.
The new retail model is aimed at reducing the barriers for international expansion, allowing brands to test and grow their presence in China without the heavy investment normally required for large-scale stores or inventory.
Isabella Liu, International Brands Development Representative of Matro Group, said: “Boundless Matro is more than a commercial entity; it is a composite ecosystem where Eastern and Western cultures meet.
We are offering global brands a seamless, digitally-enabled gateway into China, housed within a space that celebrates our rich cultural heritage.”
The inclusion of Begg & Co is another significant moment for Ayrshire’s luxury and manufacturing sector, showcasing the region’s craftsmanship to a fast-growing international audience.
