Ayrshire groups share £28,520 Commonwealth Games funding.

Three Ayrshire organisations have secured a share of more than £28,000 in National Lottery funding to deliver sporting, social and community activities inspired by the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Lochlan’s Legacy in Cumnock, Darvel Area Regeneration Team and Kilwinning Community Football Academy have received a combined total of £28,520 through National Lottery Awards for All Scotland.

The funding will help the groups deliver inclusive, locally led activities aimed at bringing people together, encouraging participation and ensuring Ayrshire communities feel part of the excitement surrounding the Games.

The awards form part of an additional £2.2 million investment being delivered jointly by The National Lottery Community Fund, sportscotland and Creative Scotland.

Darvel Area Regeneration Team, known as DART, has been awarded £8,520 to help deliver a free community festival themed around walking and cycling in 2027.

The event will include a range of cycling-related activities, including a 90km sportive, alongside activities for residents and families.

George Gardner, secretary of DART, said: “The Darvel Area Regeneration Team is absolutely delighted to receive this grant, which will help make our annual cycling event a huge success in 2027.

“The event combines a range of cycling-related activities, including a 90km sportive, together with community activities.

“The Darvel community can look forward to what we believe will be an outstanding celebration of cycling and community involvement.”

Lochlan’s Legacy has been awarded £10,000 to organise four major sporting and social events for young people living with Type 1 diabetes.

The events will also be accessible to the families of participants, helping to create opportunities for support, social connection and physical activity.

Kilwinning Community Football Academy will also receive £10,000 to deliver a free community programme inspired by Glasgow 2026.

Children and young people will be given the opportunity to take part in a range of fun and inclusive sporting and wellbeing activities.

The announcement is part of the wider All In campaign, Glasgow 2026’s Scotland-wide movement encouraging communities, schools, sports clubs, cultural organisations, voluntary groups and businesses to celebrate the Commonwealth Games in their own way.

The first 40 grants awarded through the programme total £317,456.

Neil Ritch, Scotland director at The National Lottery Community Fund, said: “We’re delighted to support Lochlan’s Legacy, DART and Kilwinning Community Football Academy to bring the spirit of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games to their communities through National Lottery Awards for All Scotland.

“It’s really exciting to see so many communities go All In and become inspired to deliver sports, arts and cultural activities.

“Thanks to National Lottery players, we’re helping to make sure the benefits of the Games are felt in communities right across Scotland.”

Chris Ansell, Glasgow 2026 director of live programmes and engagement, said the ambition was for every community in Scotland to feel connected to the Games.

He said: “From Shetland to the Borders, we want every community in Scotland to feel part of Glasgow 2026.

“The response from communities across the country has been brilliant, with the nation embracing the spirit of the Games and channelling it into sport, arts and cultural activity.

“These projects are proof that the impact of the Games reaches far beyond our incredible venues, sparking something real and lasting in communities.”

National Lottery Awards for All Scotland grants of up to £10,000 remain available for groups planning community projects connected to the Games, including activities taking place after the closing ceremony.
