Ayrshire Hospice Land o' Burns Starlight Walk is a major success
Over 830 walkers took to the streets of Ayr on Saturday 20th May 2017 for the annual Ayrshire Hospice Land o’ Burns Starlight Walk. Thankfully the weather was kind as walkers tackled either a 4, 9 or 13 mile route which kept them on their toes well into the wee small hours of Sunday morning!

Some excellent pre-walk entertainment was provided by DJ Colin McArdle, with the team from Curves Ayr getting participants warmed up before sending them off in style at 10pm from Ayr Racecourse, accompanied by the tunes of the Maybole Pipeband and encouragement from Mary the Faerie and her stiltwalking friends. Over one hundred volunteer stewards were stationed out on the route to help keep everyone safe, including the popular Blue Knights motorcycle group. Domino’s pizza Ayr provided volunteers with pizza, and other tasty treats were generously provided by Stobbs the Baker, Bookers and Country Fresh Meats. Some fantastic live music from local band “Orthodox” kept walkers entertained at the Alloway rest stop, kindly lit by McKissock Electrical, where participants were given complimentary snacks, water and a banana courtesy of Tesco Ayr. A very welcome soup stop was also catered for by The Cook School Scotland in the hospice grounds at Racecourse Road, with walkers being offered a free cup of warming lentil soup before out on the pavements again. On triumphant completion of their walk, everyone received a medal at the finish line and a well-deserved, extremely tasty, bacon roll! Tracey Corrigan, Assistant Fundraising Manager said “A huge thank you to all of our fabulous walkers who took part in the Land o’ Burns Starlight Walk on Saturday night! You were amazing! Thanks also to our huge team of volunteers who we simply could not stage this event without. The fantastic feedback we have received from Saturday night is full of praise for our volunteers, with all of our walkers really appreciating the banter and encouragement they provided along the way! Thank you so much for giving up your Saturday night to help out”. “We are also, of course, extremely grateful to our main sponsor Ayr Audi, and to all of our supporting sponsors Tesco Ayr, Piersland Hotel, Healthy Working Lives, The Cook School Scotland, Tunnock’s, Barr’s Soft Drinks, South Ayrshire Council and the Ayrshire Post. We really appreciate all of your support”.
