Dreghorn’s very own Deni Kennedy has made history by becoming the first ever Ayrshire finalist for Miss Great Britain in more than eight decades, a remarkable achievement built on courage, self-belief, and a passion for helping others.

At just 24 years old, Deni’s journey to the spotlight has been anything but ordinary. Working as a Health Care Assistant, she’s well known for her kindness, compassion, and drive to make a difference in people’s lives. But behind her warm smile lies a powerful personal story, one of overcoming anxiety, rebuilding confidence, and learning to embrace life to the fullest.
“I wanted to push myself outside my comfort zone and help other girls like me believe in themselves,” Deni said. “I’ve come a long way personally, and I’m proud to represent something that celebrates strength and self-belief.”

Only three years ago, Deni struggled with low self-esteem and anxiety so severe it made leaving home a daily challenge. Determined to change her life, she worked tirelessly on her mental wellbeing and confidence. Now, she’s taking centre stage in one of the UK’s longest-running beauty competitions — a true testament to her resilience and spirit.
Beyond the glamour of the Miss Great Britain competition, Deni’s heart lies in giving back. She’s lending her platform to raise awareness and funds for several causes close to her:
- 💜 Alzheimer’s & Dementia Society, inspired by her daily work caring for those affected.
- 💚 SAMH (Scottish Action for Mental Health), in memory of loved ones lost.
- 💜 Epilepsy Action, a cause dedicated to her mum, who lives with epilepsy.

Her caring nature extends beyond her profession. During lockdown, Deni became something of a local sensation when she began incubating chickens and ducks, bringing cheer to families across Ayrshire and even care homes who followed her updates online.
Friends affectionately describe her as “wild” — full of life, laughter, and determination. Her personal motto reflects the same fearless attitude that’s taken her from self-doubt to the national stage:
“Don’t be afraid to fail, be afraid not to try.”
Deni’s story is one of courage and community showing that confidence isn’t about perfection, but perseverance.
