From the moment the curtain lifted on Pantheon Theatre Company’s Shrek the Musical at Glasgow’s iconic King’s Theatre last week, it was clear that this would be no ordinary week at the theatre. Bursting with heart, humour, and dazzling talent, the production swept audiences into a swamp of pure joy and imagination.
Under the inspired direction and choreography of Chris Wilson, the show delivered a masterclass in musical theatre;polished, high-energy, and full of warmth. Producer David Robertson and Assistant Producer Elaine Campbell ensured every detail sparkled, while Musical Director Chris Pugh and his orchestra brought a rich, cinematic quality to the score, seamlessly blending comedy with emotional depth.
They delivered a feast for the eyes, ears, and heart; a show that could hold its own against any professional production.

Leading the Fairy-Tale Cast
At the heart of the production, Marc McMillan was a revelation as Shrek - his booming voice, sharp comedic timing, and surprising tenderness made for a deeply engaging performance. Opposite him, the beautiful Marina Kelman shone as Princess Fiona, combining quick wit, radiant charm, and stunning powerhouse vocals in a portrayal that was both funny and moving.
Their duet “I Think I Got You Beat” was a riotous highlight, brimming with humour and chemistry.
Graeme Reid-Wallace was a scene-stealing delight as Donkey, delivering a whirlwind of charisma and comedic flair, while Callum Grier’s Lord Farquaad was a comic tour de force; his larger-than-life performance had the audience in stitches. Meanwhile, Neve Crooks, as Dragon, stopped the show with her powerhouse vocals, earning one of the loudest ovations of the show.
The Heart of the Story, The Fionas
Among the production’s most poignant and memorable moments came courtesy of two hugely talented Ayrshire sisters, Freya and Niamh Lee, who played Teen Fiona and Young Fiona. Their performances were both beautiful andspellbinding.
Together with Kelman’s adult Fiona, their rendition of “I Know It’s Today” was an emotional highlight; beautifully staged, impeccably sung, and rich with heart. The seamless transition between the three Fionas captured the character’s evolution with rare finesse, leaving many in the audience visibly moved.
It was described as “A spellbinding performance, poised, heartfelt, and delivered with breathtaking maturity.”
Niamh Lee, just 11 years old, once again proved why she is regarded as one of Scotland’s brightest young stage stars. Following her acclaimed turns as Annie and Little Cosetteearlier this year, she brought warmth, confidence, and pure emotion to the role. Her crystal-clear vocals and natural stage presence lit up the theatre.
Her older sister, Freya Lee, showcased remarkable professionalism and grace. Currently studying at the prestigious Dance School of Scotland’s Musical Theatre course, her portrayal of Teen Fionademonstrated both incredible vocal strength and emotional depth. Freya’s stagecraft and connection with the audience were magnetic, and her chemistry with both Kelman and Niamh gave the trio’s scenes an authentic, heartfelt quality that was truly special.
The Ensemble and the Magic Beyond
Pantheon’s ensemble was an energetic, unified force; from fairy-tale creatures to the citizens of Duloc, delivering precision choreography, rich harmonies, and infectious enthusiasm. Their joy was tangible and their teamwork flawless, bringing every scene to life with sparkle and spirit.
