Barassie Primary School has celebrated the launch of a brand-new children’s picture book created in partnership with local author Lorraine Johnston.

The book, titled Who or What is Frooglesprot?, was officially launched on Friday 24th October at a special event held in the school’s library.
Lorraine worked closely with both staff and pupils to bring the project to life, providing story guidance and illustration notes to the school’s Primary 7 class, who produced all the original artwork for the book.
Aimed at younger readers, Who or What is Frooglesprot? takes children on a fun and imaginative adventure while gently exploring Barassie Primary’s five core values — Ambition, Creativity, Honesty, Kindness, and Respect.
The book is available to buy directly from the school or online, with all proceeds going towards future projects that benefit pupils.
Councillor William Grant, South Ayrshire Council’s Policy Lead for Education and Lifelong Learning, praised the school’s achievement, saying:
“This is a fantastic accomplishment for Barassie Primary School. The process of publishing their own picture book has given pupils the chance to develop creative skills, use their imagination, and experience something truly memorable. I’d like to congratulate everyone involved and wish Who or What is Frooglesprot? every success.”
