Bihar Diwas celebrations took place in Patna at the weekend when the local community celebrated historic links between Patna, East Ayrshire and Patna, India.
Patna was established in 1802 by William Fullarton to provide housing for people who worked on his Skeldon estate and coalfields. William was born and spent his formative years in Patna, India and named in the village in honour of the city of his birth.
Patna Community Association worked with Vibrant Communities to create a wonderful celebratory event attended by His Excellency, The High Commissioner of India, Mr Y.K. Sinha and the Consul General of India, Mrs Anju Ranjan.
There were cultural performances from Indian dance groups and young people from Patna Primary. Commemorative gifts were presented to His Excellency, The High Commissioner of India by Provost Jim Todd, Councillor Elaine Dinwoodie, Chair of Patna Community Association and Chief Superintendent Paul Main from Police Scotland.
