Council to create parking spaces at Ardrossan seafront

North Ayrshire Council is developing plans to create additional car parking on Ardrossan seafront.

It is anticipated that a number of parking spaces will be created on a stretch of promenade at Arran Place. This area has been traditionally used as an informal car park for many years.

Following the introduction of the pavement parking ban, drivers were no longer allowed to park their vehicles on the land.

However, the Council is now looking to reinstate a number of official car parking spaces.

Councillor Gurney added:

I would like to thank all those who have raised this issue and hope that the plans currently being developed will help provide a long-term solution to this issue. In the meantime, while we await work starting, we would ask drivers to continue not to park in this area.

“The pavement parking ban is in place to ensure that footways are kept clear of vehicles to enable pedestrians to use them safely. Parking on the pavement can be particularly dangerous to those with mobility issues, visual impairments or people pushing prams and buggies or using a mobility scooter.”

The cost of delivering the parking spaces will be met from income received from Penalty Charge Notices, ensuring this money is reinvested in North Ayrshire.
