Detection Dog Boo Helps Sniff Out Illegal Nicotine Products in North Ayrshire Crackdown

Almost 200 illicit vapes have been seized following a major multi-agency operation across North Ayrshire.

Police Scotland Ayrshire joined officers from North Ayrshire Trading Standards alongside a specialist consumer protection dog and handler during visits to several licensed premises and vape shops yesterday.

The intelligence-led operation focused on tackling the illegal sale and storage of nicotine products within local communities.

A specially trained detection dog named Boo played a key role in the operation. Boo, a Labrador and German Wirehaired Pointer cross trained to sniff out nicotine products, helped officers uncover well-concealed illegal items during the searches.

Numerous nicotine products were seized, including almost 200 illicit vapes.

Authorities warned that while vaping products already carry health concerns, non-UK compliant products can present even greater risks. These can include dangerously high nicotine levels, falsely advertised “nicotine-free” products, banned ingredients, harmful metals and potential fire hazards.

Police Scotland is continuing to urge members of the public to report any concerns surrounding the illegal sale of tobacco or vape products.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101.
