A double-decker bus has suffered significant damage after its roof was torn off in a collision with a railway bridge on Culzean Crescent, Kilmarnock.

The incident occurred earlier today, leaving four people injured and taken to Crosshouse Hospital for treatment.

Photos and videos circulating on social media show the Stagecoach bus, reportedly operating the local number 6 service, halted just beyond the bridge.

The vehicle’s roof appears to have been completely sheared off in the crash, leaving debris scattered across the road.

Police Scotland confirmed their attendance at the scene, issuing a statement:

“Police are in attendance on Culzean Crescent in Kilmarnock following a crash involving a double-decker bus.

A Stagecoach West Scotland spokesperson said:

"We can confirm there has been an incident involving one of our buses in Kilmarnock this afternoon (19/12/24).”

"The 6 service, which runs from Kilmarnock Bus Station to New Farm Loch, struck a low bridge. We are aware of two people who were injured and are currently being treated by emergency services.”

"Investigations are ongoing and we are working closely with Police Scotland."

The road is closed in both directions. Please avoid the area to allow emergency services access.”

Emergency services remain on scene with several road closures in place.
