First classes take place as Dailly's new Primary School opens its doors

Education for children in one of South Ayrshire's rural communities has been transformed following the opening of Dailly Primary School. South Ayrshire Council has now welcomed the first generation of children to the new school, which opened on Wednesday 1 March.

The two-storey school replaces three separate buildings with a single structure that has space for 100 pupils. The school has also been designed to accommodate 30 children in an integrated Early Years centre, something that allows three and four year olds to attend in a single session. The main contractor for the project was Morrison Construction.

The £3.8million project is part of a £94million pipeline of works being delivered across South Ayrshire in the next 18 months, with the aim of enhancing standards through a widespread improvement programme.

Councillor Margaret Toner, Portfolio Holder for Lifelong Learning said the new building was a great example of targeted investment making a real difference, "This fantastic new building will act as a resource for the whole community, with generations of children standing to benefit from a bright, new school that will transform the standard of education.

"Looking around it is plain to see the children are already settling in fast, with this custom built facility helping the school to do things in different ways that will bring learning to life.

"We're committed to helping our rural communities to thrive and this new school forms part of a much wider programme of investment across South Ayrshire that is helping to deliver a lasting legacy through a modernised schools portfolio."

Louise McDonald, Headteacher at Dailly Primary, said moving in to the new school had proved to be an exciting time, "It's been a hectic few weeks but I'm pleased to say we've now made the big move and so far everything has gone to plan.

"The new building will make a huge difference to the quality of education we can provide with the custom made surroundings complementing the hard work of our dedicated staff.

"I'd like to thank everyone at the school and in the community for their patience and continuing support and look forward to building on our good work in our new home."

Allan Cunningham, Operations Director for Morrison Construction, said, "This is a great day for the pupils and staff of Dailly Primary and for the wider community. I'm sure the new school facilities will provide an inspirational learning environment that will encourage every student to reach their full potential.

"Today also marks the successful completion of the second of three projects Morrison is carrying out on behalf of South Ayrshire Council.

"A fortnight ago we celebrated the opening of Tarbolton Community Campus and in a few weeks we look forward to the doors opening at the new leisure facility in Girvan."

Michael McBrearty, Chief Executive of Development Partner hub South West, added, "Dailly Primary School is a wonderful state-of-the-art facility that I'm sure all pupils and teachers will enjoy.

"Dailly is the third of four projects we will have delivered on behalf of South Ayrshire Council in four months, further proving the effectiveness of partnership working and our track record of delivering on time and on budget."

The move comes at a busy time for South Ayrshire Council and the Property and Risk Service who manage these projects. The custom built technical block at Marr College opened in January, while extensions to Annbank Primary School and Troon Primary School and a new link at Southcraig School will be completed by the summer. Meanwhile work to create Tarbolton Community Campus also completed in recent weeks with pupils moving into the new building on 17 February.
