South Ayrshire Council, in partnership with Ayrshire Roads Alliance (ARA) are pleased to announce that they have been successful in securing Levelling Up Funds to construct the Dundonald to Barassie active travel route, with an expected completion date of March 2026.

The Dundonald to Barassie route will provide a safe walking, wheeling, and cycling path connecting Kilmarnock Road, Barassie to Kilnford Drive, and Dundonald. The route will be 3km and will be fully segregated from the main road.

The Levelling Up Fund is a UK Government fund which invests in infrastructure projects across the UK.

Commenting on the project being awarded funding Councillor Bob Pollock, Economic Development Portfolio Holder for South Ayrshire Council said:

"I am very pleased that we were successful in securing this funding to build the Dundonald to Barassie route. I know many in the community have wanted to see this project progress and I look forward to seeing it being constructed over the coming months."

"This is good news for Dundonald, especially on the back of the recent planning consent for an extension to the Castle Visitor Centre. Dundonald is certainly becoming one of South Ayrshire's key attractions."
