Housing Association begins work on new affordable homes in South Ayrshire

West of Scotland Housing Association (WSHA), in partnership with Mactaggart and Mickel Homes, has started construction of their latest affordable housing development in Greenan, South Ayrshire.

The £5 million development, located in WSHA’s established community at Greenan Views, comprises 31 affordable homes as part of a wider new-build development.

The development will comprise a mix of 2 and 3-bedroom family homes and is the 3rd phase of WSHA’s affordable housing development at Greenan Views with Mactaggart and Mickel. The homes are due to be ready to welcome tenants in early 2023.

Andrew Kubski, Director of Development and Asset Management at WSHA commented,

“We are delighted to have begun work on our latest development in South Ayrshire which will provide high-quality affordable housing for the local community. It is fantastic to build on our established partnership with Mactaggart and Mickel to grow the community we have at Greenan.”

Scottish Government, Housing Secretary Shona Robison said: “This development will support the local community and make a real and lasting difference to the lives of the new residents. These 31 new homes for social rent, supported by £3.157 million of Scottish Government funding, are being built to a high standard and are due to be ready to welcome tenants in early 2023.

“We are proud of delivering 111,750 affordable homes since 2007 with over 78,000 for social rent. Progress has started towards our next ambitious target of delivering 110,000 affordable homes by 2032, of which 70% will be for social rent and 10% in remote, rural, and island communities.”

Joanne Casey, director at Mactaggart & Mickel, added:

“When we started development at Greenan, with its beautiful coastal surroundings, great local facilities, and an easy drive into Ayr, we wanted it to offer something for everyone. Residents tell us they love the beach, the fantastic amenities, and abundant green space, so we are delighted to be working with WSHA on bringing this new phase of

affordable housing to the community.”
