Local police update regarding Arran running event this weekend!

LOCALITY POLICING UPDATE - EVENT - ARRAN

Competitors from across the UK are travelling to the Isle of Arran this weekend (14th to 15th April 2018) to participate in a two day extreme running event - The Arran Rat Race.

Local officers will be on patrol in the area and are encouraging motorists on the island to be vigilant and aware of increased pedestrian activity. The majority of the course is off-road with marshalls and relevant support teams in place to support the event.

Arran Locality Policing Inspector, Colin Convery, said: "This is an event which promotes Arran as a top class venue for outdoor sports. I am sure the community will extend their typically warm welcome to the competitors and I would ask that road users are vigilant over the weekend as competitors will be on the road network for short distances.

"The event will pass through Kildonan on Saturday between 1030 and 1430; Lochranza on Sunday between 0900 and 1200; and, again on Sunday, Sannox between 1400 and 1600hrs. All participants will receive a safety briefing and signs and marshalls are also in place to highlight the presence of the athletes."

Anyone with specific concerns is encouraged to contact their local policing team by calling 101 (in an emergency always dial 999).
