The Children and Young People’s Occupational TherapyService in East Ayrshire took the opportunity to engage with local families at the recent Play Day event at Kay Park in Kilmarnock.

Occupational Therapy can help children of all ages from baby to teen to grow, learn, have fun, socialise and play so they can develop, thrive and reach their full potential. At the Play Day event, the NHS Ayrshire & Arran information stall was a hub of interaction, with many local families engaging with staff who were able to provide universal and targeted support and advice.
NHS Ayrshire & Arran Children and Young People’s Occupational Therapist (East) Joanne Reilly said:
“It was fantastic to be at the annual Play Day in East Ayrshire. Families were able to stop by and try out some of our resources, including sensory items, books and everyday play items that we use with children and young people to help them practice and develop the skills they need for their daily activities.
“We had some fun with motor skills activities and games – learning to tie shoe laces and cutlery practice using play-doh were especially popular!
“We also shared tips with families on dressing and routine planning in preparation for nursery and school. The children we spoke to were keen to share their ideas for indoor play during the summer holidays and managed to put together a great list.”
