Pharmacies Open in Ayrshire Over Christmas and Boxing Day

With GP practices across Ayrshire and Arran closed on Thursday 25 December 2025 (Christmas Day) and Friday 26 December 2025 (Boxing Day), residents are being advised to plan ahead and know where to turn for healthcare advice and support over the festive period.
Some community pharmacies will remain open on a limited basis and can offer advice on minor illnesses, medicines, and treatment options. Pharmacies are often the quickest and most accessible source of help for everyday health concerns.
For wider information on local healthcare services during winter, the NHS Ayrshire & Arran Winter Health Hub is available online.
Residents can also contact NHS 24 on 111, where pharmacists are on hand to answer medicine and pharmacy-related questions, or visit NHS inform for practical winter health advice.
Preparing for the festive period
Roisin Kavanagh, Director of Pharmacy, said people can take simple steps to avoid health issues becoming more difficult over the holidays.
She advised having a small supply of common medicines such as paracetamol, sore throat remedies and cough medicines to help manage minor illnesses.
Anyone who takes regular medication is encouraged to check their current supplies in advance and only order what is needed to cover the holiday period. People are also reminded to check local GP and pharmacy opening times and allow sufficient time for prescription requests, which can take up to seven days to process.
What pharmacies can help with

(where eligibility criteria are met).
