Prestwick Cricket Club Junior Designs Scotland’s New T20 World Cup Shirt

A talented young cricketer from Prestwick has seen her design become Scotland’s brand-new international cricket shirt ahead of the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.

Thirteen-year-old Millie Chaudhary, a junior member of Prestwick Cricket Club, was revealed as the winner of Cricket Scotland’s nationwide “Design the Shirt” competition after beating hundreds of entries from across the country.

Her winning design was officially unveiled on Prestwick Beach as Scotland internationals Abtaha Maqsood, Megan McColl and rising U19 star Gabriella Fontenla surprised Millie with the news.

The special moment also coincided with the arrival of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup trophy in Scotland as part of its national tour ahead of the tournament in England next month.

The striking new Scotland shirt features vibrant blue and pink colours with tartan sleeves and was produced in partnership with kit suppliers Gray-Nicolls. Scotland’s women’s team will wear the strip for the first time competitively when they take on Ireland at Old Trafford on Saturday 13 June.

Millie said she was stunned to discover her design had been selected.

She said: “I’m totally shocked my design was selected but I’m so happy. I only entered the competition for fun after my mum sent me a link to it.

“I love the design and I’m so proud to see it and how it’s come out.

“It was so fun to hang out with the players and see the trophy, just a once in a lifetime experience, and I can’t wait to see them play in my shirt at the T20 World Cup.”

Scotland Women’s vice-captain Sarah Bryce praised the competition and said the players were excited to wear the new design on the world stage.

She said: “I love the winning design and can’t wait to wear it at the World Cup next month.

“I think it’s been a brilliant initiative, and it definitely will add an extra something wearing a shirt one of our supporters has designed.”

Scotland Men’s all-rounder Jack Jarvis said the campaign had been a fantastic way to engage young people in the sport.

He added: “We received lots of great designs all with creativity and Scottish touches throughout. The final decision was difficult, but we’re all very happy with the winning shirt.”

Cricket Scotland representatives described the design as “worthy of iconic status” as both Scotland’s men’s and women’s sides prepare for major international tournaments over the coming years.
