Around 60 Primary 7 pupils from Ayr Grammar Primary School visited County Buildings on Wednesday 26 November to learn more about their topic, democracy.

The young people have been learning about the Scottish Parliament and recently held elections for their own Pupil Parliament.
The visit allowed the pupils to experience County Hall and meet some of the school’s local Ward Members, Councillor Bob Shields and Councillor George Weir; Provost Iain Campbell;, Director of Education, Scott Mulholland; and Chief Executive, Stephen Penman.
Pupils were also given the opportunity to ask questions about the roles and responsibilities involved in each of their respective positions.
Councillor William Grant, South Ayrshire Council’s Policy Lead for Education and Lifelong Learning, said: “The school’s visit to County Buildings was a great opportunity for our local young people to gain a first-hand insight into the various different roles of those they met on the day and spend time in County Hall where council meetings regularly take place. Our young people are the future of local democracy and I’m delighted that the trip was a huge success.”
