Rail passengers travelling on the Glasgow to Ayr service have been advised to leave extra time for their journey during the Open Golf tournament in Troon. Scotrail has altered timetables throughout Ayrshire to accommodate tens of thousands of spectators expected to travel to The 145th Open at Royal Troon golf course between Thursday 14 and Sunday 17 July.
Customers are being asked to make sure they check their journey before travelling on any of the four Championship days as train times will be different and some parts of their journey will be on a replacement bus. Phil Verster, managing director of the ScotRail Alliance said the following "The Open Championship is a hugely exciting event for the people of Ayrshire and beyond, and we’re proud to play our part in helping fans get to the course. “These timetable changes have been made with our regular customers in mind, and we’ve worked hard to ensure as little inconvenience as possible. “I’d ask everyone planning on travelling by train on Championship days to check our website, make sure you’re aware of your travel options and, if possible, leave extra time for your journey as trains are likely to be busier than normal.” Full details of the changes are available by visiting www.scotrail.co.uk/theopen and clicking on 'Local Resident'. Additional services will also be added throughout the day, offering both earlier and later travel opportunities. Meanwhile, the car park at Troon Station will be used as a queuing area for customers during busy times and will be closed to the public from midnight on Sunday 10 July until midnight on Sunday 17 July. All vehicles should be removed from the car park before it closes. Alternative parking will be provided, with a shuttle bus provided to the station.
