Talented young artists in local schools are celebrating success and achievement of their artistic talents at the annual East Ayrshire Schools Art and Design Exhibition.
Held in the Dick Institute’s Young People’s Gallery, the event has now been showcasing the best in pupil art and design, and creative expression for the past 18 years and continues to go from strength to strength.
The exhibition’s opening night was attended by over 100 family members, friends and guests, warmly welcomed by the amazing sound of the Cumnock Academy Ukulele Group.
All nine secondary schools and Park School were represented, giving young people a wonderful opportunity of having their artwork displayed in a public gallery – while also offering an insight into the high quality of teaching and artistic guidance across East Ayrshire art and design departments.
Guest speaker at the event was former Auchinleck Academy pupil Blair Boyle, now in his second year of his art degree at Dundee University.
He spoke of how his teachers had helped inspire and channel his creative passion, having never considered a path into art as a career.
Blair is now an accomplished artist and much in demand as a Scottish arts ambassador, speaking to pupils all over the world about his journey and how important it is to focus on achieving your dreams.
East Ayrshire Council’s Head of Education, Alan Ward said: “Every year, we’ve seen higher standards and more visually compelling and complex works of art coming from our young people and this year is no exception.
“The gallery was buzzing with the enthusiasm and ability of these pupils and the pride of their families and friends was clearly evident and well justified.
“All genres are well represented and all our pupils deserve hearty congratulations for their creative talents and commitment to giving their very best efforts for this fantastic and important annual exhibition.”
The exhibition is free and runs until 13 April 2017.
