SCOTTISH MARITIME MUSEUM LAUNCHES FREE CREATIVE WORKSHOPS FOR UNPAID CARERS IN NORTH AYRSHIRE

The Scottish Maritime Museum in Irvine is opening its doors to unpaid adult carers across North Ayrshire with a brand new series of free creative workshops designed to inspire, support and connect people who give so much to their communities.

The programme begins on Wednesday 10 December from 1pm to 3.30pm, with further Wednesday sessions running from 14 January through to mid March.

The initiative has been made possible thanks to funding from the North Ayrshire Carers Community Fund and Museums Galleries Scotland.

Jennifer Pless, Community Engagement and Development Officer at the Scottish Maritime Museum, said: “We’re grateful for the support of North Ayrshire Carers Community Fund and Museums Galleries Scotland which has enabled us to deliver our first creative workshops for unpaid adult carers.

“The workshops will offer participants the chance to spark their imagination, develop new skills and connect with other unpaid adult carers in their community.

“As with many of our community activities and exhibitions, the workshops will be a collaborative effort. The group, supported by Museum staff, will shape the themes and direction of each workshop.

“We recently held a successful introductory workshop with unpaid adult carers. They chose to focus the December workshop on exploring the Museum’s national art collection through the themes of travel, material change and the unexpected. Inspired by this, everyone will then try their hand at lino printing.

“The upcoming workshop will also include time to share ideas for the new year’s programme, making it an ideal time to get involved.”

Support is available for those who require assistance travelling to the Museum, and all sessions include complimentary tea, coffee and snacks.

Anyone wishing to take part can book by emailing communities@scotmaritime.org.uk or calling 01294 278283.
