Bestselling author Sir Michael Morpurgo visited the Barony Campus on Friday as part of the Boswell Book Festival’s education outreach programme.

Sir Michael spoke to P7 pupils from Lochnorris Primary School and S1 pupils from The Robert Burns Academy about his new book, Black Beauty – A Retelling.
The Boswell Book Festival, held annually at Dumfries House, is described as the world’s only festival of memoir and biography. Organised by the Boswell Trust, the festival also includes education events for local children, both at Dumfries House and in schools, with support from East Ayrshire Council.

Children and young people from both schools welcomed Sir Michael to the campus alongside Councillor Elaine Cowan, Spokesperson for Education, Children and Young People.
Councillor Cowan said she was delighted to meet Sir Michael and welcome him to East Ayrshire.
She said: “Sir Michael is an incredible storyteller who has inspired generations of children and young people through his powerful and moving stories.

“To hear him speak about a story championing kindness, compassion and humanity was very inspiring, and the young people were really engaged, listening intently. What an incredible experience for our young people.”
