On Sunday November 12th people in South Ayrshire will join with the nation to remember those that have lost their lives in World Wars and in other conflicts around the world.

With members of our Armed Forces currently on active service and with some having made the ultimate sacrifice for their country, this is an opportunity to remember them and civilians who have also lost their lives. There are Acts of Remembrance taking place across South Ayrshire on Sunday 12 November and anybody is welcome to attend. In Ayr, there will be a short service led by Rev. David Gemmell at the war memorial, Wellington Square at 12:15pm. Wreaths of red poppies will be laid, followed by a two minute silence, the sounding of the Last Post and Reveille and the National Anthem. A short ceremony will also take place at the war memorial, Wellington Square, Ayr on Saturday 11 November at 10:45am to mark Armistice Day. South Ayrshire Provost Helen Moonie said: “We should never forget those that have given their lives so that others can have a better future. “The memorial services are a comfort to many and an opportunity for communities to come together to pay their respects. “There will be a service near you so please take the time to attend but if you can’t make it, take a few moments to reflect and remember.” Services will be held at the following War Memorials on Sunday 12 November.
