St Patrick’s Primary School in Troon has been recognised on the global stage after receiving the Intermediate level of the prestigious British Council International School Award.

The award highlights schools that successfully embed an international dimension within their curriculum, helping young people develop the cultural awareness and skills needed for life and work in an increasingly connected world.
Pupils at the school took part in a wide range of activities to achieve the accolade. These included a French postcard exchange, an “All Around the World” afternoon where classrooms were transformed into different countries, and a “Word of the Week” initiative introducing languages from across the globe.

Through these experiences, pupils developed confidence, curiosity and a strong enthusiasm for language learning across all stages.
George Docherty, Assistant Director of Education, praised the achievement, saying: “This is a fantastic achievement for St Patrick’s Primary. The activities undertaken allow pupils to explore global cultures while developing invaluable skills that will stand them in great stead for the future. A very big well done to all the staff and young people involved in achieving this prestigious award.”
Head Teacher Lynsey May also paid tribute to the efforts of staff and pupils. She said: “I’d like to say a huge well done to our dedicated staff and young people for their tremendous efforts in working hard to achieve this award. Receiving this recognises our ongoing commitment to providing meaningful international learning experiences that broaden horizons and strengthen global understanding. We look forward to continuing our international journey and building even more exciting global connections in the years ahead.”
Shannon West, Head of UK Schools for the British Council, added: “St Patrick’s Primary’s international work has earned the school well-deserved recognition with the British Council International School Award - Intermediate Certificate.

“We are proud and delighted to work with this great school. Many thanks to everyone for all their commitment to developing international work and sharing excellent classroom practice and resources. This is enriching education for its pupils, and their excellent collaborative projects with partner schools overseas are bringing the world into their classrooms.”
The award marks another significant milestone for St Patrick’s Primary, reinforcing its commitment to broadening pupils’ horizons through international learning and cultural engagement.
