Stagecoach bus drivers are getting on their bikes for John Kiltie tribute cycle

Stagecoach bus drivers and public are getting on their bike for bus driver John Kiltie who was tragically killed last month

John's colleague Paul McCafferty has organised the event which will start from Girvan and cover John's 585 bus routes to Largs via Maybole and Ayr. The money raised will go towards the Just Giving fund set up in John's name which has already received over £6,200.

Paul said the following

"We have had a great response from people wanting to take part and we have had offers of donations of water and Mars Bars."

"One of John's cousins from Glasgow saw our poster on Facebook and got in touch he's coming down and has said he is desperate to take part as we are going from Girvan to Largs.

"But the beauty of this event is that you do not have to do the full route so even people like me who don't cycle can take part."

Paul will be running from Girvan to Maybole with some others on bikes before handing over to the other participants at Ayr who will continue the journey to Largs.

There will be stops along the way at Girvan, Kirkoswald, Maybole, Minishant, Ayr, Prestwick, Troon, Irvine, Ardrossan before they reach their final destination.

The entry fee is £10 and can be paid on the day with all donations going towards the just giving fund.

Paul continued to say

"John's mates who started the Just Giving Fund would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to donate or has handed a donation to the drivers. We have been overwhelmed with the volume of support.

Thanks also to the local businesses for their offers of help and donations for the cycle-event. Every penny raised will go to John's family and if you can spare any puncture repair kits we'd love to hear from you."

The charity cycle will take place on Sunday, June 26. Those who want to sign up can give their names to Paul McCafferty of alternatively turn up on the day itself and pay a donation.
