Stagecoach West Scotland have donated £500 to the Three Towns Growers in Ardrossan who were selected as the winners of the Make a Difference Grant 2017 set up by Stagecoach as part of their annual Green Week activities.
Stagecoach’s annual Green Week covers the Group’s bus and rail operations in Europe and North America. In line with the theme of Delivering Solutions, the initiative aims to further raise awareness of environmental issues among staff and passengers through a series of events across the Group’s businesses. This year Stagecoach West Scotland continued with their Make a Difference Grant initiative and asked local schools and community groups to apply online for the grant. The grant of £500 could be used for a local project which would help the environment and improve their local community. The Three Town Growers from Ardrossan have been selected as this year’s worthy winners. The Three Towns Growers is a not for profit voluntary organisation dedicated to educating the community of Ardrossan, Saltcoats and Stevenston on how to grow their own produce and live more healthy and sustainable lives. Based at Elm Park Community Gardens and Allotments the group is currently developing a community garden and will use the grant to set up a community laboratory to teach local young people about the wide range of wildlife that exists in their local park area. Denise Gilmour, Chair of the Three Towns Growers said: “Through the learning experience of the community laboratory we hope to bring science closer to the lives of the young people in our community. By raising their awareness of the biodiversity within their surroundings we hope we encourage them to consider the sustainability of their environment for the future.” Emma McNae, Marketing Manager, Stagecoach West Scotland said: “Our annual Green Week is an important date in our calendar to highlight environmental issues within our local community. Our Make a Difference Grant enables us to identify and help local community groups who work so hard to improve their local environment for the benefit for those who live there. The Three Towns Growers initiative has been awarded the grant this year due to the important work they are doing in the three towns area which encourages people of all ages to grow their own produce and live a more sustainable lifestyle”
