Stagecoach West Scotland helped people travel to the International Ayr Show – Festival of Flight at the weekend (5-6 September) as part of Catch the Bus Month, a nationwide campaign led by Bus Users UK, and are now ready to support people attending the Ladbrokes Ayr Gold Cup Festival (18-20 September).

Marking its 50th anniversary this year, the initiative highlights the vital role buses play in connecting communities, supporting local economies, and reducing congestion and emissions.

In Ayrshire, Stagecoach showcased the ease, affordability, and sustainability of bus travel during one of the region’s busiest weekends.

Services ran from across the west of Scotland helping visitors enjoy the International Ayr Show – Festival of Flight with comfort and convenience.

On-site, Stagecoach’s open-top bus added a splash of colour with flight commentary throughout the weekend. The bus operator worked closely with South Ayrshire Council to deliver a convenient park and ride shuttle service, making it easier than ever to get to and from the event.

This initiative reflects Stagecoach’s ongoing commitment to supporting the local community by actively engaging with events, residents, and initiatives.

Looking ahead to the September weekend, Stagecoach has partnered with Ayr Racecourse to provide dedicated bus and coach travel for the Ladbrokes Ayr Gold Cup Festival.

Racegoers can book a ‘Transport and Entry’ package via the Ayr Racecourse website, combining return coach travel with entry to the event, starting from £45.

In addition to shuttle services included in the Transport & Entry package, Stagecoach encourages visitors to use the Stagecoach Bus App to plan their journey to and from Ayr Racecourse.

With regular express services from Glasgow and convenient local routes right to the door, racegoers have plenty of sustainable travel options. Customers are encouraged to take advantage of great-value group tickets, along with free travel for under 22s and over 60s. Booking tickets in advance is recommended.

Fiona Doherty, Managing Director for Stagecoach West Scotland, said:

“Buses are at the heart of our community, helping people get to work, school, leisure and major events right here in Ayrshire.

“Catch the Bus Month is a great opportunity to showcase how choosing the bus makes a real difference, whether that’s cutting congestion, reducing emissions, or simply making life easier and more affordable.

“By providing travel to the Ayr Show and supporting the Ayr Gold Cup, we’ve helped people enjoy two of the biggest weekends in the local calendar with ease and comfort. One double-decker bus can take up to 75 cars off the road and that’s a benefit everyone can enjoy. We’ve got you.”

Why buses matter

  • Boosting the economy: buses carry 11 million passengers a day, helping people earn, learn and spend in their communities (CPT UK).

  • Cutting congestion: a full double-decker can remove up to 75 cars from the road, improving air quality.

  • Most popular transport: buses account for two-thirds of all public transport journeys, with 78% of trips in Scotland made by bus.
