As part of Transport Scotland’s strategic trunk road management programme, Scotland TranServ will combine two resurfacing projects under the single closure of the A76 between Cumnock and Kirkconnel.
The projects are being combined in order to reduce disruption to the local community and the commuters and businesses using this busy route during the week.
Resurfacing of 1.1km of the A76 Lochside Farm and Mid-Lowes project between Cumnock and New Cumnock will be completed under the weekend closure.
The resurfacing of 1km of the A76 Polneul to High Cairn project between New Cumnock and Kirkconnel will be completed during night closures.
In order to complete this combined £825k of resurfacing as quickly and safely as possible, it will be necessary to implement a full weekend closure of the trunk road between Cumnock and New Cumnock.
Closures will be in place from Friday the 6th until Monday the 9th of September, followed by a further 4 overnight closures between Cumnock and Kirkconnel to complete the A76 Polneul to High Cairn project.
Ruairi Dickson, Scotland TranServ’s project design lead on the resurfacing works said:
“Scotland TranServ has been working in consultation with local authorities, key stakeholders and the emergency services to carefully planning these works in order to reduce the impact on the community, commuters and businesses.
These combined works have therefore been programmed for the short window between the end of the summer holidays and the September weekend.”
The Structural Maintenance team has been working closely with colleagues in Network Design to carefully schedule this combined programme.
Lewis Dorans, Scotland TranServ’s Network Design team lead on the A76 Lochside Farm to Mid-Lowes resurfacing project added:
“Keeping disruption to a minimum for communities, as well as protecting the safety of our workers and the travelling public, are always of paramount importance on our projects.
Working together we are able to reduce the impact on those commuters and businesses using the A76 during the week.
Our programme aims to support the local economy and deliver tangible, long-term benefits to the trunk road network, working with communities and their representatives to carefully schedule our works.”
Special arrangements have also been made for emergency service vehicles. Local access will be maintained to New Cumnock and Kirkconnel.
