As part of Transport Scotland’s strategic trunk road management programme, Scotland TranServ will resurface 1kilometre of the A76 between Borland Rd and Skerrington Roundabout near Netherthird in November.
The programme of work will also incorporate the resurfacing of the A76 at Burnton Farm, New Cumnock
In order to complete this £230k project as quickly and safely as possible, it will be necessary to implement a full weekend closure of the trunk road.
Tony Chambers, Scotland TranServ’s Lead Designer said:
“This is a significant programme of work to improve the surface of the A76 carriageway outside Cumnock. To carry out these works as quickly and safely as possible, with minimal disruption to the local community and businesses, we will need to install a weekend closure of the trunk road.
“Works have been developed in consultation with local authorities, emergency services and key local stakeholders. In order to reduce any further impact on motorists, the programme of work will also incorporate the resurfacing of the A76 at Burnton Farm, New Cumnock.”
Trunk road closures will be in place during the following times:
· 8pm Friday 2nd to 6am Monday 5th November
Because of the nature of the trunk road in this area of South West Scotland, it will be necessary to implement a lengthy diversion route as recommended. Drivers are advised to leave plenty of additional time for their journeys, and to follow @trafficscotland on Twitter or visit trafficscotland.org for live updates. Further information is available on the Scotland TranServwebsite.
This concentrated programme of improvements for the A76 are among a number of such schemes being scheduled by Scotland TranServ to deliver long-term benefits to commuters, local communities and businesses across South West Scotland on behalf of Transport Scotland.
Andy Fraser, Scotland TranServ’s Operating Company Representative concluded:
“This project has been scheduled to be delivered with maximum efficiency and minimal disruption. The A76 is an important economic artery connecting numerous communities and businesses across Ayrshire and Dumfries and Galloway.”
