TRAVEL: A77 Southbound closure this weekend will see drivers face a long diversion

Scotland TranServ, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is rescheduling the resurfacing of the remaining A77 Southbound carriageway from Whatriggs Overbridge to Craigie Road, near Kilmarnock.

Due to adverse weather conditions in July, it was necessary to postpone the resurfacing of 2.1km of carriageway, prior to completion. Now, in order to finish this project as quickly and safely as possible, it will be necessary to implement a weekend closure of the trunk road between

Friday 30th of August and Monday 2nd of September.

Adam Sarwar, Scotland TranServ’s project design lead on the resurfacing works said:

“To protect the health and safety of our workers and the travelling public, while minimising the impact of the works on commuters and freight traffic, it will be necessary to implement a full weekend closure of the A77 in this area

“Scotland TranServ has been working in consultation with local authorities, emergency services and key stakeholders in the planning of this programme. In order to complete these works with minimal disruption to commuters and businesses using this busy carriageway, we will work across the weekend.”

The programme will therefore be carried out between the following times:

8pm on Friday 30th of August and 6am on Monday 2nd of September

Drivers are advised to allow additional time for their journeys, with a diversion in place throughout. Live trunk road updates are available by visiting @trafficscotland.org or following @trafficscotland on Twitter.
