TRAVEL: Resurfacing A76 Lugar Water

As part of Transport Scotland’s strategic trunk road management programme, Scotland TranServ will resurface 710m of the A76 at Lugar Water, between Cumnock and Auchinleck.

In order to complete works as quickly and safely as possible, it will be necessary to close the trunk road from Friday 21st to Monday 24th of June.

Ruairi Dickson, Scotland’s TranServ’s project design lead on the works said:

“We have been working in consultation with the local authority, emergency services and key local stakeholders to carefully schedule these works to have minimal impact on the commuters and businesses. This is a busy road connecting Dumfries and Kilmarnock, and therefore it’s important that we reduce disruption where we can.”

To reduce the environmental impact of the project Scotland TranServ will use the crack and seat system.

Alan Murray, Scotland TranServ’s Principal Road Design Engineer added:

“We have successfully used the crack and seat system on a number of projects across South West Scotland over the last few years. This uses the existing surface materials as part of the base layer for the new resurfaced road.

“The system pounds the road with a large metal sheet to introduce flexibility into the base layer, allowing the foundations to strategically expand and contract, while also reducing the transmission of traffic vibration to local properties.”

Works are scheduled for completion over a weekend in order to accelerate the programme and reduce the impact on commuters and businesses. The project will therefore take place under a weekend closure of the trunk road, during the following times:

8pm on Friday 21st to 6am on Monday 24th June

Diversions will be in place throughout this short programme of work. Drivers are advised to visit trafficscotland.org, or to follow @trafficscotland on Twitter for live updates.
