At 10.12pm on Wednesday 6 May 2020, Troon RNLI all-weather and inshore lifeboats were requested to launch by Belfast Coastguard to assist in a multi-agency incident at Ardrossan.
Belfast Coastguard had been notified that a person had become stuck between rocks and was unable to free themselves.
The volunteer crew assembled at the station and the RNLI Trent class all weather ‘RNLB Jim Moffat’ and D class inshore lifeboat ‘Sheena’ were soon making best speed towards Ardrossan harbour to assist Ardrossan and Largs Coastguard Rescue Team, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and the Scottish Ambulance Service.
As the lifeboats arrived on scene to assist, the Fire Service assisted by the coastguard personnel on the shore had managed to free the casualty. The casualty was then checked by paramedics as a precaution.
Due to this, the lifeboats then returned to Troon where they were made ‘ready for service’ with the assistance of the shore crew.
Troon RNLI lifeboat Coxswain Joe Millar said: ‘Given the COVID-19 outbreak and the importance of social distancing, we know people who live at the coast still want to exercise by the sea, but when you do this, please think of the potential impact of your actions on RNLI lifeboat volunteers and other emergency services. Every time a lifeboat crew is called to an incident, it puts additional pressure on RNLI volunteers and other front line emergency services'
