Rory Nimmo, 26, and John Clark, 43, were today convicted at the High Court in Glasgow of causing death by dangerous driving following the fatal collision on 28 October 2022.

Nimmo was driving a heavily modified Audi TT with tyres below the legal tread when he lost control during an early-morning race with Clark, who was in a Ford Focus.

Nimmo’s vehicle crossed onto the opposite side of the road and struck a Renault Kangoo van driven by 46-year-old Shona McKinlay from Dreghorn. She sadly died at the scene.

The court heard both men had been travelling at grossly excessive speeds, reaching 111mph at one point, and that Nimmo had attempted an unsafe overtake shortly before losing control.

Nimmo, from Cumnock, and Clark, from Drongan, had denied their involvement but were found guilty following trial. They were remanded in custody and will be sentenced in the New Year.
