The Ardrossan Coastguard Rescue Team was called out shortly after 10pm yesterday to reports of a person in the water near Irvine Harbour.
The team responded immediately with Coastguard Rescue Officers gearing up in full water rescue equipment and preparing for a rapid insertion into the water once on scene.
A multi-agency response swung into action with resources from Police Scotland, Scottish Fire & Rescue Service, Scottish Ambulance Service as well as additional Search and Rescue assets including Ayr Coastguard Rescue Team and Troon Lifeboat being tasked to the incident.
As the team arrived on scene, the casualty was successfully being recovered from the water by officers from Police Scotland, whose quick thinking had a massive positive impact on the outcome of the incident. The police officers were assisted by emergency service colleagues with the casualty then quickly placed in the care of paramedics from the Scottish Ambulance Service.
It was thereafter established only one person had been in the water and all emergency services personnel were also safe and well and accounted for.
The team has then been in a position to stand down and return to station with the incident coming to a successful conclusion with the casualty being conveyed to hospital by ambulance.
The team has then returned to station to repack all rescue equipment and complete the necessary paperwork before booking off duty shortly before midnight to return home to their families, with many due up for work early the following morning.
This incident once again highlights the excellent multi-agency working and the vast range of emergency service resources which are readily available to assist those in need throughout Ayrshire.
