University Hospital Crosshouse’s Chemotherapy Ward has received a new medical device designed to make treatment more comfortable, thanks to a fundraising effort led by local resident June Murphy.

June launched the appeal to support family friend Shauni Lambie, 30, from Stevenston, who has been receiving treatment for Hodgkin’s lymphoma at the hospital for more than three years. After witnessing Shauni endure repeated painful attempts at cannulation, June set up a GoFundMe campaign which raised more than £1,000 to purchase an Airglove device for the ward.
The Airglove gently warms a patient’s arm or hand to help make veins more visible and accessible, easing the cannulation process for those undergoing long-term treatment.
Shauni said, “I end up black and blue, covered in bruises and in a lot of pain because my veins are pretty much non-existent now. When June showed me the Airglove, I was so impressed. We knew we had to get this into Crosshouse to help others like me.”
She added, “I actually couldn’t wait to try it – and what a difference it made! I’m chuffed to bits that so many people will benefit.”
Senior Charge Nurse Judith McKee said, “On behalf of all the staff on the ward, I want to extend our deepest thanks. This donation is a testament to the power of community, compassion, and innovation. We are incredibly grateful to Shauni and June for their generosity and vision in helping improve the experience of cancer patients at University Hospital Crosshouse.”
