A former Marr College and Marr Rugby Club player from Troon is preparing to take on an extraordinary endurance challenge in aid of a charity close to the hearts of the rugby community.

Ali Walker is set to run the famous North Coast 500 route, covering approximately 500 miles over seven days, to raise vital funds for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, the charity established by Scottish rugby legend Doddie Weir to fund research into Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
Walker, who previously attended Marr College and played for Marr Rugby Club in Troon, has already built a reputation for taking on demanding fundraising challenges. Last year, he completed seven marathons in seven days in support of the same cause, raising thousands of pounds for the foundation.
Now, he is preparing for his biggest challenge yet as he tackles one of Scotland’s most iconic and demanding routes. The North Coast 500 circles the Highlands and is renowned for its breathtaking scenery, steep climbs and unpredictable weather conditions.
The challenge aims to raise awareness and funds for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, which continues to invest heavily in research seeking effective treatments and ultimately a cure for MND. The charity was founded by former Scotland international Doddie Weir following his diagnosis with the disease and has since raised millions of pounds to support research and those affected by the condition.

Ali’s efforts have already attracted support from his former club. Marr Rugby Club recently presented him with a donation to assist with his fundraising campaign, recognising both the scale of the challenge ahead and the importance of the cause.
Speaking through the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, Ali has highlighted his determination to push beyond his limits while helping to make a difference in the fight against MND.
As he prepares to set off on the gruelling week-long journey, supporters across Ayrshire and the wider rugby community will be cheering him on every step of the way.
Anyone wishing to support Ali’s fundraising efforts can do so through his dedicated My Name’5 Doddie Foundation fundraising page.
