Ayrshire's own 'Steve Clarke's 11' bus service launches as Scotland competes at World Cup

Football fever is sweeping Ayrshire and Stagecoach is marking Scotland's participation in the 2026 World Cup by temporarily renaming its number 11 service 'Steve Clarke's 11' in honour of one of the area's most celebrated sporting figures.

The special tribute recognises the achievements of Saltcoats-born Clarke, whose leadership has helped Scotland reach the world's biggest football tournament for the first time in 28 years.

For the duration of Scotland's World Cup campaign, customers using the number 11 route will travel on the rebranded as 'Steve Clarke's 11'.

The route has strong links to Clarke's football story. It begins at Kilmarnock Bus Station, around 1.5 miles from Rugby Park, where he enjoyed success as manager of Kilmarnock before taking charge of the national team. The service then travels through his hometown of Saltcoats before terminating in Ardrossan.

The tribute also reflects the electrifying impact Clarke has had on Scottish football. While the fully electric number 11 service is helping deliver cleaner, greener journeys across Ayrshire, Scotland supporters will be hoping Clarke can continue to electrify the nation by leading the team beyond the World Cup group stages for the first time in the country's history.

Clarke began his football journey with Beith Juniors before enjoying a distinguished playing career with St Mirren and Chelsea.

He has since established himself as one of Scotland's most successful modern managers, leading the national side to consecutive European Championships before securing qualification for the 2026 World Cup.

Fraser Smith, Commercial Director for Stagecoach South Scotland, said:

"Steve Clarke has given Scotland supporters some unforgettable moments and we're proud to celebrate one of Ayrshire's finest as the country prepares for the World Cup.

"I recently had the opportunity to meet Steve at the PFA Scotland Awards, where Stagecoach sponsored the Scottish Premiership Player of the Year, and I was delighted to wish him and the squad every success for the tournament.

"Now we're going the extra mile to honour him. The number 11 service has a special connection to Steve's story, linking Kilmarnock and his hometown of Saltcoats, so it felt fitting that 'Steve Clarke's 11' carries his name while Scotland takes on the world."

The temporary rebrand forms part of Stagecoach's support for local communities and its celebration of the people who continue to put Ayrshire on the sporting map as Scotland prepares to compete on football's biggest stage.
