Ayrshire Roads Alliance confirmed that the works have now been completed, allowing the bridge to reopen well ahead of the original anticipated completion date of Sunday, 28 June.

The project included blast cleaning and painting of the steel structure, as well as the removal and replacement of the anti-slip surfacing on the bridge deck.

The improvements were carried out to help protect and preserve the bridge, which remains an important walking and cycling route in Ayr.

Despite some instances of vandalism during the project, the works were completed ahead of schedule.

The reopening will be welcomed by pedestrians and cyclists who use the bridge as a key connection across the area.

Ayrshire Roads Alliance thanked residents, commuters and bridge users for their patience and understanding throughout the works programme, which has helped secure the future of the popular crossing for years to come.
