Fun Fair is back in town after they find new site in Ayr

HORNE'S Pleasure Fairs are back in town after The Ayr Racecourse cut back on giving permission to use their ground - which means they will now set up at Craigie Park (Next to St Johns Primary) in Ayr.

Fairground operators, Horne Pleasure Fairs, have been coming to Ayr for over 30 years, most of the years the 'shows' have been situated at the grounds of Ayr Racecourse.

Unfortunately for the Horne family, the yearly tradition was left in jeopardy leaving the fair with no alternative site.

Charlie's cousin, Ayr businessman, Jimmy Horne, contacted the Ayrshire Daily News to see if we could help and in turn, we called Councillor Siobhian Brown - within weeks Councillor Brown contacted all the necessary departments to which meetings were held within South Ayrshire Council to find an alternative site.

It was quite clear that the Horne Family were very passionate about keeping this annual event going in full swing.

Fun Fair Operator, Charlie Horne, told the Ayrshire Daily News: "We're back in Ayr and it's one of our favourite places and although the weather isn't great today, I am told it's going to be good for the weekend ahead.

"I'm the 5th generation in the family business, with my son going on to be the 6th, the rest of the family has diversified into pubs and hotels, but we've stayed in the fairground business.

"The council and Ayrshire Daily News have all been very helpful to finding a new site for us.

"We are open from 2 pm till 8 pm every day till Monday 8th of April."

Councillor Siobhian Brown said: "It was unfortunate they were unable to hold the event this year at Ayr Racecourse.

"Through Jimmy Horne and the Ayrshire Daily News, who got in touch with me earlier this year, I’m delighted that we managed to keep the attraction in Ayr and assist them by moving the event to Craigie Park.

"Charlie Horne has provided me with VIP vouchers to give out to local disadvantaged kids."
