Fun times at Lochshore as park opens

The latest exciting development at Lochshore Park is now complete and being used by young people and their families.

Situated just a few steps from the Hub, this lively addition to the Lochshore parkland destination provides a wide range of play equipment within a nature inspired landscaped surrounding.

The playpark was designed by Hirst Landscape who have delivered a number of projects across Scotland over recent years.

Construction was carried out by Landcare Solutions.

The playpark has been designed as a natural play area that combines the elements of a traditional playground with the natural environment.

The playpark provides plenty of space for young people to roam and move about, with chutes, swings and other equipment mainly made out of wood to provide a natural look.

“It looks absolutely fantastic and really fits in with the surroundings. A huge well done to all those involved and we are sure it will be a place where many happy memories are made.”

Councillor Tony Gurney, Cabinet Member for Green Environment and Economy, said:

“We are delighted with how things are progressing at Lochshore. The playpark is another great addition and adds to the offering at the site.

“Lochshore is an important site for us and the work that’s been done is a real example of the community, Council and partners working together to develop something that can enrich lives and make a difference.”

Lochshore is one of North Ayrshire Council’s key regeneration projects.

Lochshore Park Hub opened in 2022 and includes a dog-friendly café which provides food, hot and cold drinks, essential amenities such as restrooms, a Changing Places toilet and baby-changing room, changing rooms and more. There is also a community room which is proving popular and can be hired for events and meetings.

A major tree-planting project is also underway with approximately 17,000 trees planted. Complementing this is a community woodland which has seen approximately 2,400 trees planted.

The 5km loop was completed last year and has benches which allow you to take a moment out of your day to enjoy the beautiful natural scenery. For young people, there are hidden play areas, where they can get creative and make things.

The active travel route was also completed in the first phase of development linking Lochshore Park to the NCN7 Cycle route.
