Kilwinning Art Club Exhibition Celebrates Creativity, Confidence and Community

A colourful new art exhibition has opened in Kilwinning, showcasing the creative journey of 24 local people who have been developing their skills through community art groups.

The exhibition, organised by the Kilwinning Locality team, is located in the community room behind Kilwinning Library’s reception area and celebrates work created by members of the Tuesday art group at Cranberry Moss and the Friday group at Kilwinning Library.

Both groups run from 10am until 12pm and are free to attend.

Led by Locality Worker Ailsa Conlin, the sessions bring together participants aged from 36 to 78, creating an inclusive and welcoming space for people from a wide range of backgrounds, including non-English speakers and those with additional support needs.

The groups are designed to offer more than just art tuition. They provide a place for social connection, creativity, confidence-building and wellbeing, allowing members to share experiences and enjoy a supportive environment.

Ailsa said she was incredibly proud of everything the groups had achieved over the past two years.

She said: “Watching them grow not only in their creative abilities but in their confidence has been genuinely inspiring.

“Many have developed their own unique artistic styles, taken creative risks, and built a belief in themselves through the arts.”

The sessions explore a range of techniques and mediums, including colour theory, mixing, brush control, highlights and shadow, while also offering the therapeutic benefits of creative expression.

Group member Colleen said: “When I started coming to the group over a year ago, I wasn’t really artistic at all, but now it’s the highlight of my week.

“It’s incredible seeing what we have created up on the wall, and I hope that others will be inspired to pick up a paint brush too.”

Patricia added that the sessions had helped her confidence and anxiety, while regular member Willie said he loved the banter, the cuppa, the conversation and the friendships formed through painting.

The free exhibition features a wide range of work, from scenic landscapes and Arctic scenes to colourful cities, flowers and fauna.

Visitors are advised to check with Kilwinning Library staff for daily opening times.
