East Ayrshire is gearing up for a week of Halloween excitement as a packed programme of family-friendly events runs from Saturday 11 October to Sunday 19 October, offering something for everyone during the school holidays.

From spooky storytelling and outdoor adventures to arts, crafts, and interactive theatre, the region’s venues are promising plenty of entertainment for families looking to make the most of the autumn break.
At the Burns House Museum & Library, the frightfully fun ‘Trick or Treat: A Spooky October’ event continues right through until Saturday 1 November. Visitors can test their wits in a haunted escape room, take part in creepy games, and get creative with Halloween-themed crafts – all free of charge. Guests are encouraged to don their best costumes and join in the eerie fun.
Younger visitors can enjoy Community Playtimes, a series of free sessions packed with Halloween-themed activities for children aged 0–8 and their families. Featuring messy play, arts and crafts, glitter tattoos, badge-making, sports and games, these sessions take place at Loudoun Leisure Centre on Tuesday 14 October and at Rose Reilly Sports Centre on Thursday 16 October, both from 10.30am to 12.30pm.

For those who love the great outdoors, Dean Castle Country Park will host a trio of spooky nature sessions. Budding adventurers can take part in ‘Haunted Hideouts’ on Wednesday 15 October, where children can build eerie woodland shelters and explore the park in all its autumn glory. Sessions cost £4 each, with times at 11am and 2pm.
Rounding off the week, families can enjoy a theatrical treat with ‘You Choose’, a fun and interactive musical based on the picture book by Pippa Goodhart and Nick Sharratt. The performance at 1pm on Saturday 18 October invites the audience to shape the story, choosing the characters, costumes, and settings for a one-of-a-kind show every time. Tickets are £10 per person or £25 for a family of four.
