Local Whisky distillers William Grant & Sons supporting Girvan RNLI

Recently Girvan volunteer lifeboat crew were invited to our local whisky distillery based right here in Girvan to gratefully receive a donation, the Girvan Distillery is owned and operated by William Grant & Sons Ltd.

The Girvan Distillery is one of the largest facilities in Scotland which is making whisky. The distillery is named after the town of Girvan. The distillery is known as one of the most energy efficient distilleries in Scotland, it is also home to Ailsa Bay single malt and Hendricks Gin. As with other lifeboat stations up and down the country, Girvan is no exception with crew coming from a variety of working backgrounds, and in this instance being one of the largest employers in the area it comes as no surprise we have several crew and ex crew working within the vast distillery complex in various roles. William Grant & sons in Girvan have been keen supporters of Girvan Lifeboat for a number of years now, from monetary donations through the William Grant Foundation, raffle donations & prizes right through to providing lorries and trailers to assist with our gala days and of course allowing our crew to leave for shouts. Recently an RNLI collection box was placed within the distillery through liaison with the crew that work there and management. The collection box for loose change total was £14 to which William Grant & sons have said they will double giving a total of £28

One of our crew who works at the Girvan Distillery is Fraser Stirling, Fraser age 20 has been an apprentice cooper at the distillery for the last 4 years and his apprenticeship ended on Monday 26th August, Fraser will continue his employment at the distillery as a fully trained and qualified cooper, where he will continue to craft and mend the wooden barrels that store and age the precious whisky. Throughout this last year William Grant & sons have also said for every hour Fraser has volunteered for the RNLI said they would donate an amazing £9 per hour to Girvan Lifeboat which will equate to about £1000 from their employee led giving scheme coming straight to Girvan Lifeboat. Fraser commented "I am extremely grateful for the support my employer William Grants & Sons Ltd have shown me with my commitment to the RNLI, I am very proud to be part of the crew and to be giving something back to the community as well as learning a whole new set of skills whilst volunteering and helping to save lives at sea, which is very rewarding." William Grant & Sons family shareholders established the William Grant Foundation in 2014 as a non-profit association to oversee and direct their donations. The William Grant Foundation is committed to a future where everyone in Scotland has the opportunity to thrive, a belief that is deeply rooted in the core values shared by the family and the company, you can find more about the support it provides here http://www.williamgrantfoundation.org.uk Girvan distillery site leader Stuart Watts went on to say "Girvan distillery are very pleased to continue our long term relationship with the local RNLI team. Many of us will be related to or know people who work at sea and so greatly value the amazing service that the RNLI provide. There are also those working at the distillery who have been previously and are currently members of the crew. It’s great for the wider team to support their colleagues in what they do and the time that they so generously donate."

Girvan Lifeboat Coxswain/Mechanic Callum Govus said about the donation and continued partnership "We are extremely grateful for the continued support William Grants have provided to us throughout the years, from monetary donations to raffle prizes, we have raised a lot of money from Grants raffle donations, and this money along with other money raised locally helps us with things like crew kit, training etc. and your money doesn’t just go to headquarters it comes directly to Girvan lifeboat station to help us in running the station and continue to save lives at sea, This contribution from William Grant & sons here at Girvan shows what a fantastic commitment and support they have for local charities"
