Police launch an operation in East Ayrshire focusing on Housebreakings and Vehicle crime

OPERATION STICKRAIL - UPDATE


Police in East Ayrshire recently launched an operation focusing on housebreakings and vehicle crime in the area.

Since the launch, on Monday 23rd September 2019, local officers have arrested a number of people in connection with crimes of dishonesty, executed arrest warrants relating to housebreaking crimes and are following positive lines of enquiry into recently reported incidents.


Notable detections included:


- A 31 year old man being arrested and charged in connection with a sneak in theft, attempted theft of a vehicle and other crimes in the Riccarton area of Kilmarnock about 0030 hours on 30th September.


- Officers investigating the report of a break-in at a commercial property on Irvine Road, Kilmarnock, about 0020 hours on 1st October 2019, arrested and charged a man for theft by housebreaking. He was held in custody to appear at Court.


- On 2nd October 2019 officers arrested and charged a 44 year old woman in relation to a sneak in theft and a housebreaking with intent to steal at properties in the Bellfield area of Kilmarnock on 1st October 2019.


A spokesperson for policing in East Ayrshire said

“we have seen a recent increase in this type of crime locally and are committed to doing all we can to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.


“There are many ways that you can help secure your home and business from intruders. They don’t all cost money – some are purely down to common sense and good housekeeping.


“We would encourage anyone who witnesses suspicious activity to call us on 101 [or 999 in an emergency] as soon as possible.”
