Police Scotland have increased road patrols to ensure the safety of all road users as thousands of motorcycling enthusiasts prepare to travel to the North West 200 in Northern Ireland.

The North West 200 kicks off on the 7th May 2025 in Northern Ireland, with the race weekend attracting over 150,000 visitors from all over the world. The celebration of biking will see many motorcyclists travelling through the West of Scotland, en route to the ferry terminal at Cairnryan.
To help ensure the safe movement of traffic, Police Scotland will be increasing patrols along the A75 and A77. These patrols will be supported by Police Scotland Safety Cameras who are operating daily mobile deployments along the A75, alongside the average speed camera system which is in place on the A77. Drivers travelling along these routes are reminded to act responsibly on the roads and consider the safety of all road users on their journey.
The increased support along the route should minimise any delays and encourage an enjoyable experience for all those travelling.
Inspector Ally Johnson of the National Motorcycle Unit ‘Police Scotland recognise the importance of the North West 200 to the biker community. Our priority is to ensure that everyone reaches their destination safely. Please take your time, check your vehicle before setting off, and ride in a manner that protects yourself and others. Our officers will be visible along key routes to offer support and advice, as well as enforce where necessary.’
Police Scotland officers will also be attending in Northern Ireland to support local engagement.
