Positive report for Kincaidston Primary and Early Years Centre

The quality of education and care at Kincaidston Primary School and Early Years Centre in Ayr has been highlighted today (24 January).
This positive appraisal from Education Scotland and Care Inspectorate reports which found that the Primary School was achieving ‘good’ performance across the board, while the Early Years Centre was assessed as ‘good’ to ‘very good’ on all counts.
The Inspectors came to their conclusions after a recent visit to the school, which included discussions with parents, young people and staff. As part of the process, evidence was gathered on the quality of leadership and management, learning provision, alongside young people’s success and achievements.
In summary, the inspection team found the following strengths in the school’s work:
A positive caring atmosphere across the school and the early years centre which is resulting in a calm learning environment for children.
Children across the school and early years centre are very positive, very well behaved and engaged in their learning.
The range of support given to children who have additional support needs which is enabling them to make good progress in their learning.
A flexible, nurturing early years setting that supports and motivates children to make good progress in their learning. The early years staff team are skilled and responsive in providing motivating play experiences.
The following areas for improvement were identified and discussed with the Head Teacher and a representative from South Ayrshire Council:
Staff should ensure that the information from tracking children’s progress is used to review and improve attainment at regular points through the year.
The school develops a more consistent approach to assessment, working with other schools to ensure consistent standards.
Refresh the curriculum to ensure that it’s relevant to children’s needs and interests.
Develop opportunities for leadership at all levels, as well as to share good practice across the school.

“The inspectors were pleased with the culture they found at both the school and Early Years Centre, and also found that children were engaged in their daily routines.
