South Ayrshire Council Leader Martin Dowey Resigns

The leader of South Ayrshire Council, Councillor Martin Dowey, has formally resigned from his position following a dramatic day at the council headquarters.

His resignation came after a heated cabinet meeting earlier today, during which councillors voted to remove Deputy Leader Bob Pollock from his post. The session also saw the surprise resignation of Provost Iain Campbell, adding to the growing political upheaval within the local authority.

A council spokesperson issued the following statement:

“Councillor Martin Dowey has submitted a formal resignation from his position as leader of the council with immediate effect.

“This morning, councillors voted to remove Councillor Bob Pollock as depute leader of the council.

“Councillor Iain Campbell has resigned from his role as provost of South Ayrshire Council.

“Consideration is currently being given to determine a date to reconvene today’s suspended council meeting.”
