More than 2,700 people were at the Citadel in Ayr for the annual Communities Fun Day recently.
Organised by South Ayrshire Council and their tenants, there were lots of activities for young and old as people from local communities came together to have some fun and all for free.
A survey taken on the day revealed that over 86% rated the fun day as ‘very good’ with new attractions like the ‘Digger Challenge’ proving to be instant hits. The West FM Dance Party was also a real crowd pleaser with prizes galore and the massive Blackstone Clydesdale Horses attracted would-be riders throughout the day.
Some favourite activities were back again this year with the petting zoo, Nerf wars, surf simulator and fun rides pulling in the crowds. The vehicle display was also busy with lots of people getting interactive with everything from an Ambulance to Council waste collection lorry!
Katie Brown (10) said: “The Surfboard Simulator was my favourite.”
Tess (7) said: “I loved the Bunny Luv petting zoo and making things too.”
The information stalls proved popular with the slightly older generation with helpful advice and support from the Council, charities and local community groups.
Councillor Philip Saxton, Housing & Customer Services Portfolio Holder for South Ayrshire Council said: “Once again the Communities Fun Day has proved to be a massive success. Not only were people having fun but they were getting active which is great for their health and wellbeing.
“The information zone went down a storm and we will continue to work with our partners to ensure advice and support is available to those that need it most.
“I would like to thank the organisers, sponsors and particularly all the volunteers who made the event possible.”
