Travel Guide For Getting to The International Ayrshow Festival of Flight

We've put together this handy travel guide for getting to the international Ayrshow festival of flight in Ayr, taking place this Friday evening & Saturday.


Getting to Ayr By Train

ScotRail Trains will operate with extra carriages and additional services will run before & after the event on Saturday - Trains leave Glasgow Central every 30 minutes to Ayr stopping at Paisley, Johnston, Kilwinning, Irvine, Barassie, Troon, Airport, Prestwick Town, Newton-on-Ayr & Ayr. (Services likely to run more regularly than every 30 minutes before and after the event).


Trains also run from Largs where you can change at Kilwinning for services to Ayr.


Trains run every hour from Girvan/Kilmarnock to Ayr.



Getting to Ayr By Bus

From Glasgow


X77 From Buchanan Bus Station (Every 20 Minutes)


From Kilmarnock


4 - From Kilmarnock Bus Station (Every 30 Minutes) - Runs via Symington, Monkton & Prestwick.


From Irvine


585 - From High St outside the Carrick (Every 30 Minutes) - Runs via Prestwick


From Bellsbank, Dalmellington, Patna & Dalrymple (Doon Valley)


52 (Every 30 Minutes, except Dalrymple which is every 60 minutes)


From Cumnock


43/42 from Cumnock bus station (Every 30 Minutes between both services)


From Troon


Service 14 - From Church St (Every 60 Minutes) - Runs via Monkton & Prestwick.


From Girvan


58/60 (Every 30 Minutes between both services) - Runs via Maybole & Dailly (58) or Maidens (60).


From Stranraer


358/360 (Every 2 Hours) - Runs via Girvan & Maybole.

Services 1, 2, 2A, 3, 6, 7 & 9 are available locally around Ayr Town and we would encourage people to use these if they stay local within Ayr & Prestwick. Full timetables can be found via the link below.

Getting to Ayr By Car

From Glasgow travel via A77 to Ayr

From Irvine, Largs and North Ayrshire Travel via A78 to Ayr

From Kilmarnock travel via A77 to Ayr

From Cumnock Travel via A70 to Ayr

From Girvan travel via A77 to Ayr


Where possible stick to main A roads as these roads will have traffic management, please allow extra time for your journey and follow signs around Ayr for selected parking.




Park & Ride Details

Ayr Racecourse - park and ride or walk. Shuttle buses will be provided, but people who prefer to walk can do so. Cost: Friday 6th - £5 / Saturday 7th - £15.


Seafield - park and walk. This is the closest car park to the festival. Cost: Friday 6th - £10 / Saturday 7th - £20.


Rozelle Estate (open Saturday 7 September only) - park and ride or walk. Shuttle buses will be provided, but people who prefer to walk can do so (please note it's just over one mile to walk from Rozelle Estate to the festival site). Cost: Saturday 7th - £15.


Blackburn Drive (Blue badge holders only). Cost: Friday 6th and Saturday 7th - free.


For those of you who choose one of the park-and-ride options, shuttle buses, provided by Stagecoach, will drop you off even closer to the action this year - at Ayr Esplanade. 


Spaces are limited, so SAC strongly advise you to book in advance (excluding Blackburn Drive) to guarantee your space.
